SDL Presents Submission to Constitution Commission

The Soqosogo Duavata Ni Lewenivanua Party wants a common name for everybody in the country to be Fiji Islanders and only indigenous to be called Fijians.

Today SDL executive member Pio Tabaiwalu and Ratu Jone Kubuabola today presented their submission to the Constitution Commission at the new GCC complex in Suva.

SDL affirms the 1997 Constitution, as to be the base on which the Constitution Commission will be able to draft the new constitution.

SDL has proposed that the Great Council of Chiefs should be established under the Constitution, instead of a legislation.

SDL wants the election of the President to be done by Parliament instead of the GCC.

SDL is against immunity provision however they are in favour of amnesty through a Commission of the Coups so that Commission can look at all the things that have happened in the past before amnesty is given.

SDL is in favour of a provincial environment so that everybody has a right to healthy environment to be incorporated in the new Constitution. They believe this is becoming an important issue including environment and climate change.

Some former parliamentarians like Matiasi Ragigia and Dr. Tupeni Baba were among other members who were present to give their submission.
