 Forgery case dropped

THE Suva Magistrates Court has discharged a forgery case against former Fiji Broadcasting Corporation chairman Daniel Kingston Whippy and deputy chairman Champak Kapadia.

It was alleged they intended to defraud FBC by making a false document, namely an extract of minutes of a meeting of the Board of Directors of the FBC purported to be held on March 19, 2004.

Mr Whippy and Mr Kapadia each entered a not guilty plea for the amended charge of one count of forgery.

Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) withdrew the charges against the duo on Tuesday.

FICAC legal officer Elenoa Leweni informed the court that after consideration of the representation made by the defendants, a decision was made to discontinue the proceedings against Mr Whippy and Mr Kapadia.
