Illegal Regime to Makes Illegal Changes to Electoral Laws with Decrees

 Sai's Comments:
  • Watch this space! The illegal regime is bound to make illegal changes to electoral laws to ensure its survival. From the wording of the illegal AG's statement on impending changes to the registration of political parties, one can assume their intention to make life difficult for their opponents.

  •  You can bet your bottom dollar they will be going all out to target people like Qarase and Chaudhry, both currently fighting bogus charges in the courts, with bans to keep them from entering the election. What and how will the regime concoct some type of offence in the law or indeed requirement for the registration of political parties will soon be unveiled. One thing is for sure and that is, the regime will be hell bent on placing as many barriers as possible to make it nigh difficult or costly for their opponents and their parties to  play a part in the planned 2014 elections.
  • Unless Yash Ghai musters some intestinal fortitude to confront the Dictator Bainimarama and his megalomaniac Minister for Elections, Khaiyum, to back off, there is a real possibility political parties will withdraw from participating thereby calling into question the credibility and integrity of the whole exercise.

The Electoral Registration of Voters Decree which is now in effect states that the Electoral Act is repealed however a political party registered under the repealed Act will continue as a registered party until such time further laws are made in relation to the registration of the parties.

The decree also states that any person who is serving a prison sentence of 12 months or more and any person declared to have a mental disorder under the laws of Fiji shall not have the right to be or shall cease to have the right to be registered as a voter unless the circumstances cease to exist.
