The Soqosoqo Duavata ni Lewenivanua Party welcomes the government’s decision to implement changes, it says was in its pipeline when the coup took place in 2006.

The SDL party says a new electoral system planned by government for the 2014 elections will be the best for Fiji.

The party says they have gone a long way from ethnic voting.

“I’m supportive of one man, one vote and I think it’s time that we should have the system in Fiji. The SDL party has expressed support for that before the takeover in 2006 and also supported the idea f proportional one man, one vote.”

Qarase says the SDL party wants to be part of the process of developing the government’s roadmap to elections

“The party executives made some suggestions regarding our stand and possible submissions to the Constitution Commission. At the end of the meeting, it was unanimously agreed that the proposal by the party executives be endorsed.”

The SDL will hold their next few public meetings in the west, followed by meetings in the Northern Division.
