SDL Disappointed on Permit Issues

FBC News

Former Fiji PM Qarase
The Soqosoqo Duavata ni Leweni Vanua Party says they are disappointed that all other organisations except political parties and unions, can easily get permit for public meetings.

Party Leader, Laisenia Qarase claims the authorities are using double standards in deciding who can meet and who can’t.

“We are disappointed that there is some differentiation. I think the rule should be same for everyone but in the meantime we will apply for a permit when we want to meet”
NGO’s, and civil society groups including faith based organisations can now get one-off permits to hold public meetings.

After getting the permit they’ll just have to inform the Police Commissioner when and where they are to meeting.

This one-off permit will not apply to political parties or unions who will have to continue to apply each time they wish to hold any meeting.
