Illegal Regime Scores Zero on Budget Transparency

We all know how the Dictator Bainimarama duped the people of Fiji with ridding government of corruption as a reason for his 2006 coup. What we then see him carry out is far worse including paying himself for leave he said was owing and the monumental lack of transparency over government finances despite the existence of a so called public accounts committee which has never issued a report.

Now we have a report posted on Fiji Democracy Now blog confirming it all!

The good governance coup?

May 28, 2012

In 2006 Bainimarama seized power in the name of good governance. A lot of people still don’t know what that means but one normal measure of good governance is budget transparency and accountability.

Can we see where the Government says it’s going to spend our tax-payers money, so we can hold them accountable for their performance? Freedom blogs have lashed the Bainimarama regime for its budget information but now an independent international body, the International Budget Partnership released its Open Budget Survey 2010.

And where does the Bainimarama regime come? Last, there is no-one worse. We have scored zero.
