Pacific Forum Group to Discuss Fiji

Australia Network News - 11 February 2011

Any moves by Fiji towards democratic elections will be discussed at a Pacific Islands Forum meeting in Vanuatu beginning on Monday.

Australia's Pacific Islands Parliamentary Secretary, Richard Marles, will attend.

The meeting in Noumea of the Ministerial Contact Group On Fiji will discuss progress, if any, to Fijian elections.

New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray MNcCully says the interim Fiji Foreign Minister, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, has been invited to the meeting and will attend.

The contact group was set up in 2008.

Pacific Island Forum Secretariat leaders asked it to monitor the situation in Fiji and report on developments.

The meeting will be chaired by Vanuatu Prime Minister Sato Kilman. There will also be delegates from PNG, Tuvalu and Samoa
