Fijians Must Resist Militarisation of Fiji Society

Sai's Comments:

More Military Appointments announced in Fiji as around 80% of key government positions are now held by Military Officers.

If this trend persists, especially if the Dictator Bainimarama hangs on to power after 2014, Fiji will match current Egyptian society where the military has become the new elite after the military overthrow of the Egyptian King in 1952.

Fijians of all persuasion must resist at all cost the attempt by the current illegal regime to redefine Fijian society in such a way.

Every effort must be directed at ridding Fiji of the military approach to governance as it:
· is without merit
· lacks popular mandate; and
· treats citizens as robots to be operated remotely by the whims of those in power.

Fiji Times - Monday, January 31, 2011
The Public Service Commission has announced the appointment of Lieutenant Colonel Ifereimi Vasu as Commissioner for Prisons and Correctional Services and Lieutenant Colonel Neumi Leweni as the Commissioner Eastern.
PSC chairman Josefa Serulagilagi confirmed the appointments in a Ministry of Information release.
Mr Serulagilagi said the position of Commissioner Prisons and Correctional Services was critical to the Public Service.
The position not only demanded outstanding leadership skills and qualities, but also a person who was prepared to make a difference in Government's quest for change, transparency and accountability in reforming state institutions and bringing about improved efficiency, he added.
He said Lt-Col Vasu, given his leadership qualities and wide experience in the Republic of the Fiji Military Forces and the civil service, adequately fulfills the requirements in this regard and as such was the most suitable candidate to continue the excellent work carried out by Brigadier-General Ioane Naivalurua, who would focus specifically on his role as Commissioner of Police.
Lt-Col Leweni replaces Lt-Colonel Vasu as Commissioner Eastern.
Lt-Col Leweni's secondment back into the civil service and subsequent appointment as Commissioner Eastern is also in view of his track record and proven experience and achievements in his earlier roles in the service.
Both appointments are effective immediately.
