Ganilau Resigned over Roth Issue

Fiji Live News - 18 November  2010

Fiji's outgoing Minister for Defence, Immigration and Acting Prime Minster Ratu Epeli Ganilau (middle in picture above) has shed new revelation on the reasons behind his resignation from government.

“We had some differences over the David Roth issue,” he told FijiLive in an exclusive interview this morning.

Ratu Epeli said he resigned willingly.

While he did not wish to elaborate on the issue surrounding the Fiji Water director of external affairs, Ratu Epeli said he did not agree with discussions he had with the government concerning Roth

“I sent my resignation through email but it has not been acknowledged by the PM as yet.

Ratu Epeli said he would stay home and rest for now and later will go and spend his Christmas holidays in Taveuni with his family.

Permanent Secretary for Information Sharon Smith-Johns yesterday announced his resignation in a press conference.

Minister for Primary Industries Joketani Cokanasiga has replaced Ratu Epeli and will act as Prime Minister until the PM returns early next week from a trade mission in China.
