All's Not Well in the Illegal Regime

Fiji acting interim prime minister Ganilau resigns

Radio NZ International -  17 November, 2010

Fiji’s acting interim prime minister, Ratu Epeli Ganilau (middle above picture) has resigned.

An information ministry statement says he tendered his resignation as minister of Defence, National Security and Immigration last night.

The statement says Ratu Epeli is being replaced by the interim Minister for Primary Industries, Joketani Cokanasiga.

He has told the Fijivillage website he resigned for personal reasons.

The permanent secretary for information, Sharon Smith-Johns, says the interim prime minister, Commmodore Frank Bainimamara, will explain the resignation upon his return from China at the weekend.

A political scientist at the University of Auckland, Dr Steven Ratuva says it would appear that all is not well with the interim government.

“Certainly from the outside it appears that there may be some differences in certain areas of how things should be run, in terms of decision-making and in terms of the overall trajectory of how things are moving.”

Ratu Epeli joined the interim regime in 2007 only weeks after the 2006 military coup.

He had been an unsuccessful candidate in the 2006 election when he was the leader of the National Alliance Party.

Before entering politics, Ratu Epeli was the defence force commander for eight years.

    • people ..wat have i been shouting and writing on the intelligence disclosuers ..... !!!! Its time that people start resigning and lbring the end of the current regime. read my chaos theory! The bodyguard of Ratu Epeli has disclosed that Aiyaz and Ratu had a heated exchange yesterday and Aiyaz is the one who has told Ratu that he should resign. Also yesterday PM's bodyguards had stormed in Aziz office and questioned him on certain issues and told him to go on leave. AG was seen partying at the new PS for Toursim house with a few girls!
    • You have been right on the mark with your previous posting and thank you again for keeping us up with the play. Does this mean that all is not well? They are all waiting for ratu suguraki to come back from China, can something possibly happen before he arrives?
    • RESIGN, WHY?
'sources in Fiji have told the ABC he was unhappy about being forced to approve the deportation of a business executive involved in water exports. '
ARE YOU FOR REAL??? GO GET A JOB!!!
    • Sa resign ni sa kila na leqa ena sotava nina lesu tale ko Viti kina Democratic Matanitu, Sa ra kila nai lala qo ni nodra na veilewai ena Internation Court of Justice mai Geneva.Amnesty International has all the evidence of the Human Rights abuse in Fiji under this illegal Regime.
The criminal activities include the murder of CRW soldiers, the murder of innocent civilians in the custody of soldiers, the torture of innocent civilians, and the torture and abuse of women in military custody is well documented.
Least but not last is the actual coup which was illegal in the first place but enough to make Bainimarama and his illegal ministers traitors in Fiji.
All these are crimes against humanity in Fiji by Bainimarama and his co conspirators.
    • I'm still suspicious about the 1st. person to lose his life to this coup !
The Australian Helicopter pilot who flew Ministers to out Islands for their safety and then Mr.Qarase over the Military roadblock on the 5th. of December 2006.
The Helicopter was seen to have blown up before hitting the water after taking off from Nadi, it was owned by Island Hoppers and another of their Helicopters was destroyed a couple of years later, coincidentally !

Also, we mustn't forget Francis Keane's conviction against Mr.Whippy and the soldiers who were released after serving only four months for murder.
along with that release, the Yellow Ribbon concept and its real intention, and those who played their part in either implementing that scheme or abusing it, must be also held accountable.
I hope someone is taking notes and adding these and other accusations to the long list of atrocities !

In effect and in reality, I suspect that the Legitimate Government of Fiji, past and most recent, could be sued by all victims and their families for failing to detain and arrest the Commander Frank Bainimarama and others implicated in the act of Sedition in November 2006.

All these issues should be explored and implemented, if only to be used as a deterent and to make governments accountable in future.
A massive expense to Government in way of Law Suits, could be what is needed to make government and its Agencies etc. more effective and accountable to the point of preventing future coups, now that has to make it worthwhile !
    • I got this tip off of Rt eveli's impending resignation yesterday but was asked to hold back to protect suspicion on my mole. Well the story is Eveli is so pissed off and cannot take the pressure any more of all the unreasonable demands and the calling of the shorts by Khaiyum who is actually the real PM.

Ni bau yadra na sotia ka solia na veiliutaki kina dua na caretaker govt. Election in June 2011.

      • Hopefully, if any good is to come out of this latest coup, it will be that many more Fijians have become or will become interested in Politics.
But it's modern politics and it needs to be taught at every level of society in Fiji, I suggest.
Clearly, Democracy, needs to be defined so that everyone can understand it's role and the difference between Democracy and Traditional Leadership etc. otherwise it will only be a matter of time before another coup is implemented.
      • Fiji School Curriculum need to be revised. In Fiji we never study our government system.EVEN IN SCHOOL FROM 1987 TO DATE,THERE IS NO TEACHING DONE TO LET THE SCHOOL KIDS KNOW WHY COUP IS BAD AND WHY IT IS GOOD.....
      • I totally agree with both of you. Considering the events of the last 23 years I think that political awareness should be a subject that is introduced into the curriculum in Fiji. My observation is that many politicians in Fiji tend to believe that a political appointment is a lifetime position. And the lack of transparency within the system supports that view. Educating the future generation of what politics is really about is something that should be seriously looked at considering that we tend to blend the church and and traditional view of respecting the ratu's all into one.
      • A Reliable source revealed that Ratu resignation had triggered when Khayum announced Teleni's psoting without consulting the acting PM and the Department of Foreign Affairs since this two department plays a vital role in selecting one.

Rt Epeli only came to know when questions were raised with him by the a MEDIA and little did the media knew he was more suprised then them.

He was insulted by these moves and taking into account of the recent sacking of his brother in law and the arrogant of Khayum probably pissed him off i believe he will be re-instated since Bainimarama's heart beat is not up to par he doesnt have a choice but he cannot afford to have more enemies .

Secondly Rt recently helped a Korean National a close pal of his get his papers approved with a phone call to the assistant Director of Immigration who was just been on the job for probably 3 weeks and he got himself kicked because he obeyed the directive from Rt Epeli who is his Minister.

        feeling hot hot hot.....
