Press Release 10 September 201

The media report from Fiji (through the government-owned Fiji Broadcasting Corporation Ltd) of the Samoa Head of State’s meeting with Fiji’s Interim Prime Minister is a misrepresentation and omission of the background which led to the reported meeting.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade of the Republic of Fiji had asked through the University of the South Pacific to request the proposed meetings between His Highness and the President of Fiji as well as its Interim Prime Minister.

Hence, the request had come from the Fiji interim government through the USP, not the other way as implied by the media report.

The University of the South Pacific should be able to verify these facts.
