Fiji abandons Forum group talks

Radio New Zealand International - 24 on 04 June, 2010

Fiji’s interim prime minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, says he will have no more dealings with the Pacific Islands Forum ministerial group tasked with liaising with Fiji.

This comes after the group reported that the situation in Fiji is worsening.

Commodore Bainimarama says the people are happy with the regime and foreign leaders should talk with the people on the ground.

He’s told Auckland-based Radio Tarana that he rejects the position taken by some Forum countries.

“Unfortunately Fiji will not toe the line but will act independently as a sovereign country for its national interests. In this situation they want to continue to want to impose the concept of democracy to resolve Fiji’s issues. Let me just remind them Fiji will seek its own path to a true democratic nation.”

  • Bainimarama has really lost the plot, as the entire universe knows that a calf will be born from a cow, a kid from its goat parent so the trend dictates, how can he, in his wisdom think that "Democracy" will be born from Dictatorship ? Radio Tarana shoud have aborted the interview when garbage started spilling out of his mouth.
  • Every government has the same dream Bainimarama except for yours. It is illegal, unelected and founded on lies and the death of innocent Fijians and there is nothing in the world you can do to justify it...There is no hope for such a government in a democratic state..Call yourself a soldier, you dont even have the guts to stand up to all your lies and deceit but bury bury your dump head in the sand and hope that the truth is will somehow obliterate. You have infected the fijian people with your own devious attitude to the truth.
  • Bainimarama has no training in/or experience of/ industry, commerce or economics. Clearly he is unemployable outside of politics and unfit to be employed inside of politics.
  • Just go Bainimara and take your cronnies with you. You unimaginative, unproductive and unaccountable man.The thinking man in the street of Fiji has been aware of these facts for a very long time.We are sick to the back teeth of you robbing the country of its wealth . Human rights abuse, home raiding, etc. etc., etc., do the right thing and just get out. Nobody wants you anymore.Your incompetence is matched only by that of arrogance!
