Implementation of Counter Terrorism Strategy approved

Fiji Village News - 7 April 2010

The implementation of the National Counter Terrorism Strategy and the Counter Terrorism Legislation has been approved by Cabinet as this will see the protection of Fiji's interest from both internal and external threats.

Cabinet base its decision on the Defence Minister, National Security and Immigration, Ratu Epeli Ganilau.

Ganilau said that terrorist activities come in many forms and at the present rate, Fiji's security from such terrorist activities is not yet fully guaranteed.

He added that within this backdrop, the country needs to prepare itself for any eventuality, whenever this may be.

He said that it is the requirement of the United Nations under the UN Global Counter Terrorism Strategy that Fiji should have a Counter Terrorism Legislation.

Ganilau added that the preparation of a Counter Terrorism Legislation, in consultation with the Solicitor General's Office will aim to effectively and protect Fiji's interests from terrorist activities in the future.

  • In my opinion Voreqe has entered a new level where home grown terrorist's is unavoidable now. When he practice terrorist acts and supports it, then they are the main culprits who breeds terrorists. Look no further Voreqe, but right under your nose.
  • Epeli Ganilau must know and understand that the only terrorist in Fiji today is the illegal regime that he has signed into and is working under. The former Military commander(undeserving to say the least) has the gall to try and implement a strategy to counter imagined Terror when he shoul be taking hiumself out as a terrorist to the peoples of Fiji.
  • Mirrors will be supplied to Frank Bainimama, Soldiers of the RFMF and other coup instigators, in order to seek out and identify Terrorists within Fiji's borders.
It's expected that they will come in the shape of a womans compact, as in a beauty kit.
An appropriate Cosmetics Bag will also be provided with the option to purchase others in the range.
