Pension 'not' a Cost Saving Issue

Fiji Broadcasting Corporation, February 08, 2010

Government has stopped giving out pensions to more then twenty former ministers of the past governments.

The permanent secretary to the Prime Minister’s office Pio Tikoduadua says they’ve taken out their pensions.

He says it wasn’t done as a cost cutting measure – but something that just had to be done.

"This is not a cost-saving issue. We are not doing this because we want to save money."

Some former Minister’s including former PM Sitivei Rabuka have been stripped of their pension following the passing of a decree by government.
