New ATS board digs in

New ATS board digs in, sends senior execs home - Friday, January 22, 2010

TWO senior executives of Air Terminal Services, including the acting chief executive, have been sent home after the first meeting of the company's new board.

The decision to drop CEO Sailosi Soqo and quality assurance manager Eliki Kaumaitotoya was made by the board on Tuesday.

Re-elected chairman Ratu Nemia Vainitoba said the board resolved immediate steps be taken to recruit appointments in the shortest possible time.

"The board has been tasked by the Government to ensure effective governance and improved control of operations," he said.

Ratu Nemia said the board had in the interim appointed Hare Mani, who used to be manager cargo and ramp services.

Mr Soqo had been acting since the late Kevin Hammer resigned for medical reasons in October. Mr Hammer died early this month.

Ratu Nemia said the board had directed that management enforce strict discipline and ensure operations were not disrupted.

"The board takes a very serious view of attempts by any person to disrupt operations and indeed our capacity to serve our clients - the airlines," he said.

Former Fiji Media Council chairman Daryl Tarte is among the four new board directors appointed to the ATS board.

Finance Ministry deputy permanent secretary David Kolitagane, Ratu Nemia Vainitoba and Meli Waqa are the State directors.

The Prime Minister's permanent secretary, Colonel Pio Tikoduadua, confirmed the appointments, saying they replaced Viliame Waka Setitaia, Isimeli Qaranivalu, Director Civil Aviation Akuila Waradi and Finance Ministry permanent secretary John Prasad.
