Jalal Attacks Fiji Prosecutor

by Fiji Broadcasting Corporation, 13 January 2010

Lawyers for the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption today asked the Suva Magistrates Court to warn lawyer Imrana Jalal for making personal attacks against FICAC prosecutors.

FICAC lawyers told Magistrate Phushara Rajasinghe that Jalal allegedly accused a FICAC lawyer of being appointed only due to her father’s senior position in the current government.

FICAC Prosecutor Madhawa Tenakoon said Jalal should be warned about making personal remarks against FICAC officers.

Jalal allegedly made the comments outside the Suva Magistrates Court this morning.

The court ordered Jalal against making any similar comments in the future, warning that it would be a breach of her current bail conditions.

Jalal who faces sevens counts of operating a restaurant business without a license was also ordered to surrender her passport to the court registry.

The Court told Jalal she can travel overseas upon advising the court and FICAC.

She was also told that her business partner and husband Ratu Sakiusa Tuisolia cannot accompany her overseas as only one of them can travel at a time.

The matter is adjourned till the 28th of this month.
