Former FIT director cleared of charges

Former FIT director cleared of charges - 18/03/2009
Sai Comment:
- This is another case where the accused has had to suffer the limelight and attention for allegations that were flimsy from the word go. Another useless result for the useless FICAC body whose staff and head should be thrown out just like the organisation itself! The undeserved humiliation the good peopl eof Fiji had to go through at the behest of the current illegal and illegitimate and unmadated regime. The sooner they go the better for Fiji and its people. I hope and pray Meo sues the government for this blatant miscarriage of justice.

Former Fiji Institute of Technology director Kolinio Meo has been cleared of abuse of office charges brought against him by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). In a low-key setting in the Suva Magistrates Court today, Magistrate Amani Rokotinaviti ruled there was no case to answer because the prosecution had not been able to provide enough evidence to continue the trial.
FICAC has been given 21 days to appeal the judgment.Meo was charged with one count of abuse of office.Jubilant after the ruling, Meo said he knew he would win the case.“I had done nothing wrong and the court has decided that today. I was sure that I would have won the case and there even came a time when I decided that I should represent myself in court.”
Meo said the public suffered the cost of an unnecessary charge brought against him.“The public has been incurring the cost of a $726 accounting error which could have been easily solved out of court.”Meo’s contract as FIT director was terminated after FICAC laid charges against him.
He said he is contemplating legal action against the commission.
