SDL to appeal against ruling

SDL to appeal against ruling

The Soqosoqo Duavata Lewenivanua is expected to meet its lawyer to appeal against the High Court judgment which declared the interim administration legal.
SDL national director Peceli Kinivuwai said the party would meet its lawyers tomorrow before it would actually decide on its next move.

Whatever the case, Mr Kinivuwai said the party would “definitely” appeal against the decision.

“We did lose the battle but not the war,” he said.

Mr Kinivuwai said the party’s Queen’s Counsel overseas would also be contacted for the appeal.

However, he said, the party would thoroughly study the judgment and take the matter to a higher court.

“We’re going to do this because we believe there was a miscarriage of justice,” he said.

Meanwhile, interim prime minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has called on all citizens to respect the declaration by the High Court favouring the regime.

And he invited registered political parties to meet, discuss and agree on an agenda for the way forward towards constitutional and sustainable democratic governance.

However, Mr Kinivuwai said the SDL had been waiting for such an invitation but despite this, nothing had been forthcoming from the interim administration.

“We’re sick of all the lies,” he said.

“That’s why we’re hoping for the President’s Forum, the quicker the better.”
