SDL ‘not happy’ with forum outcome

SDL ‘not happy’ with forum outcome - 30/10/2008

The Soqosoqo Duavata ni Lewenivanua (SDL) has labelled this week’s political forum as a “waste of time”, blaming the interim Government for being unfair in facilitating the meeting.

Party National Director Peceli Kinivuwai said the meeting on Monday with the interim Prime Minister and other political parties did not look promising.

“We just sat there for more than half the day listening to the interim Government go on and on about their future plans but they did not give us a chance to listen to what we have to say,” he said.

Kinivuwai said the purpose of the forum was to facilitate other “smaller” political parties to understand the intentions of the interim Government and its plans.

“Most of them looked confused and I must say that the forum was mainly facilitated for them,” he said.

“For the SDL party we were ready to submit our proposal to the interim Government but unfortunately we were not given time to do so.”

Kinivuwai said one of their demands was to have the interim Government return the country to democratic rule in 2009.

“The bigger parties were ready to submit their proposals to the interim Government but unfortunately we had to facilitate other smaller parties who were to some extent lost in the talks,” he said.

“Now we will have to wait until next month for another political meeting and I hope that we will get a chance than.”

He said the each party should be given time to submit their proposals in the next meeting.
