Church Calls On Members To Reject Draft Charter - 27/08/2008
The Methodist Church of Fiji has decided today that all its members should support the Church's stance against the draft People’s Charter by not signing the consultation forms that will be given to them by the National Council for Building a Better Fiji (NCBBF) teams.It has also been revealed today that church executives are planning to meet with President Ratu Josefa Iloilo next month.Speaking to the 700 plus members present at the annual conference at the Centenary Church, Social Services chairman Reverend Manasa Lasaro said the members should be firm in their belief and not to be moved easily during this time especially as the Church does not support the draft Charter.When questioned by members whether they should fill in their names or sign on the forms which will be handed to them by the NCBBF teams, Reverend Lasaro told the members not to sign or even write their names on the forms.He also assured members at the conference that the forms given by the Church for members to sign to show that they reject the Charter, will be collected in the 3rd week of September, following which they will try to meet with President Ratu Josefa Iloilo to show the stance of the Methodist Church and its members against the draft People’s Charter.Meanwhile, the paramount chiefs representing the 3 confederacies are expected at the Centenary Church this hour to show their support to the Methodist Church of Fiji in opposing the draft People’s Charter.Kubuna high chief Ratu Epenisa Cakobau, Roko Tui Dreketi Ro Teimumu Kepa and Tui Cakau Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu will be present at Centenary church.Outgoing President Reverend Laisiasa Ratabacaca told the 700 plus members that the 3 high chiefs will be coming in their capacity as the Vanua heads of the 14 provinces in Fiji.
