Presidential Forum Should Include All Issues

Presidential Forum Should Include All Issues

Ousted Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase believes that the Presidential Forum to be facilitated by the Commonwealth Secretariat should also include all national issues and not just electoral reforms.Qarase made this suggestion to the Forum Ministerial Contact Group when he met with the delegation this morning. And the ousted Prime Minister is still optimistic that elections will be held in Fiji next year.Qarase refused to comment and walked away from reporters outside of the Forum Secretariat Office in Suva, when questioned by FijiVillage on the recommendations he has made to the Foreign Minister to try and ensure that general elections are held by March 2009. Meanwhile, ousted Opposition Leader Mick Beddoes and National Federation Party General Secretary Pramod Rae also met with the group this afternoon. Beddoes and Rae both said they called on the Contact Group to continue to pressure the interim government to adhere to its promise of holding elections by March next year. The Ministerial Contact group completed its formal consultations this morning and is currently conducting a press conference.
