Political parties will continue to prepare for a general election despite signs that it may not take place.
Soqosoqo Duavata Ni Lewenivanua Party national director, Peceli Kinivuwai said the SDL party was prepared for the poll and has vowed to stand despite statements from the interim Government that it would be barred.
"We have been preparing from last year and we'll go to the polls as planned," said Mr Kinivuwai.
"No one has the authority or the mandate to remove us and if anyone is to stop the SDL from standing and competing in the next election it has to be the party or the voters."
He said with the constitution in place, the interim government could not stop the SDL from contesting the elections.
National Federation Party general secretary Parmod Rae said the NFP was ready to go to elections but the party along with the public needed a clear indication from the interim Government that elections would take place as planned.
"When and whether the elections will happen needs to be confirmed so our preparations come to fruition, otherwise what's the point in our preparations?" he said.
"If there isn't any election then we as a party won't want to waste our time and resources making plans when we know the planned elections won't happen."
Party of National Unity general secretary, Meli Bogileka said after the comments by Cdre Bainimarama that no support of the People's Charter would mean the election won't take place spoke volumes.
No comments could be obtained from any other political party on their election preparations.
