-What a farce to treat the legally elected party in the Government of Fiji that was illegally deposed by Voreqe as if it is a terrorist group. The Police and authorities did not blink an eye giving such an approval to the Fiji Labour Party to meet. This is the hall mark and action of an arrogant and illegal regime that is desperate to cling on to power no matter what.
Written approval has been given for the political party of ousted Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase to hold its annual general meeting this afternoon.

This has been confirmed to Fijilive by party national director Peceli Kinivuwai.

The SDL was given verbal approval earlier today but Kinivuwai said the written approval from the Commissioner Central was given just before midday.

However, there are conditions attached to the approval for the meeting.

Kinivuwai said police officers would be present to monitor the meeting and the party has to provide the names of people attending the AGM.

The party hopes to discuss minutes from the last AGM, adopt its audited accounts, hear the party leader’s report, adopt its revised constitution and elect new office bearers.

It will also elect a new President after incumbent Ratu Kalokalo Loki resigned earlier this year.

“This is our first general meeting since the party was ousted in 2006 and frankly speaking we need to meet like other parties have done,” Kinivuwai said.

Earlier, the SDL was concerned that despite applying for a permit a week ago, no response had been received from police.
