SDL lays charter at Labour's feet

Thursday, January 31, 2008

THE Soqosoqo Duavata ni Lewenivanua Party claims the proposed People's Charter is an initiative by the interim finance minister, Mahendra Chaudhry.

"To be expected Mr Chaudhry has successfully manipulated both the Military Council and Commodore Bainimarama to support the initiative which is now the principle pre-occupation of the interim government.

"It is also clear the proposed People's Charter should be renamed "Chaudhry's Charter," SDL's national director, Peceli Kinivuwai said.

Mr Kinivuwai said after the Charter Secretariat's Director's interview on television on Sunday night, it was clear to him that Mr Chaudhry was behind the proposed People's Charter.

And the National Federation Party also said that it suspected that Mr Chaudhry is also behind the proposed charter.

"Well, Mr Samy said it on television, so we suspect that Mr Chaudhry and these other people he mentioned must be behind all this and the coup as well," Parmod Rae, NFP's general secretary said.

Interim finance minister, Mahendra Chaudhry could not be reached for a comment yesterday.
