No visit made to chief: PM’s office

19 DEC 2007
The Prime Ministers office has denied claims that a team of civil servants had visited Naitasiri chief Ratu Inoke Takiveikata last week seeking his forgiveness.

Permanent secretary in the PM’s office, Parmesh Chand denied this saying he had no idea of such an event taking place.

“I would have been informed of the matter if it happened,” he said.

Reliable sources in the PM’s office earlier confirmed that they had visited the Qaranivalu hoping to seek his forgiveness.

While reports are still sketchy at the moment, it is not clear why the team had asked for forgiveness.

It is believed that the team had traditionally approached Ratu Inoke but he refused to welcome them.

According to the source, Ratu Inoke did not accept the apology but requested to meet with the interim Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama instead.

Ratu Inoke’s lawyer, Akuila Naco declined to comment further saying he was busy with family commitments and had not met his client in two weeks.

“I really don’t know what happened because I was busy at a funeral and I haven’t met Ratu Inoke for sometime now,” he said.
