Leave Heffernan Alone Military

Military ordered to leave Heffernan alone -Wednesday, March 28, 2007

Update: 2.40pm THE Military and the interim Government have been ordered not to interfere with the freedom of speech and movement of the Director of the Pacific Centre for Public Integrity, Angie Heffernan.

High Court Judge Justice Jiten Singh, in a provisional order issued today, said pending the ruling of the court, the defendants are not to infringe or in any way interfere with the plaintiff's freedom of movement or expression as enshrined in the Constitution.

The court is to rule on the injunction in late April.

Ms Heffernan's lawyer, Tupou Draunidalo had filed an injunction in the High Court in January, to stop the military from pursuing her client or taking her in for questioning.

This followed claims that the military was searching for Ms Heffernan to question her over comments she made after the events of December 5th, 2006.
