Army cracks down on sex workers
Wednesday January 31, 2007

Land Force Commander Col Pita Driti
The Fiji Military Forces says it has busted a prostitution ring in the country's second city Lautoka and is now looking for those who employ sex workers.

Land Force Commander, Colonel Pita Driti said most of the prostitutes have been rounded up and questioned.

"I'm expecting a full report from my officers but all I can confirm is that we are also looking for pimps who are encouraging these people to sell their bodies for easy cash."

"I also warn those who wish to seek the services of these people not to engage in such illegal activity as they will also be taken to task," Col Driti said.

He made the comments as people were taken to the Duke of Edinburgh Barracks in Lautoka last weekend.

The military believes there are several networks operating within and out of the city.

It's also understood that many of the sex workers are from nearby towns of Ba and Nadi.
