President is a Puppet: Church Friday, January 05, 2007
THE Christian Mission Fellowship has described the President's address yesterday as "shocking". Fellowship President Reverend Suliasi Kurulo said Ratu Josefa Iloilo was obviously a 'puppet' of the military.
"The country is reeling from these unfortunate utterances," he said.
"To hide behind the rationale of culture is unacceptable.
"To say that he would have done exactly the same is a crying shame.
"To further add that the actions of the commander are valid in law and that he would have done the same is totally deplorable while at the same time reiterating that he is still upholding the Constitution."
Mr Kurulo said contradictory statements from Ratu Josefa confirmed he was being used by the military.
Meanwhile, the Pacific Centre for Public Integrity has called on the military commander to seek advice from more lawyers. PCPI executive director Angie Heffernan said the recent changes to the judiciary by the commander only reinforced concerns about the military's seriousness in acting within the Constitution.
